Visit of the Savonnerie du Midi and the soap museum of Marseille
Enter the workshops of the Savonnerie du Midi, house founded in 1894 in Marseille, fervent defender and curator of the true soap of Marseille: room of the tanks, room of the cauldrons, workshop of drying and workshop of molding of the cubes. Labeled 'Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant', the Savonnerie du Midi is one of the last manufactures based in Marseille that designs Marseille soap according to the rules defined by the Edit de Colbert in 1688. In the heart of the Aygalades district, soap is still made by the master soap makers who have succeeded each other for more than a century, around large cauldrons. The Savonnerie du Midi is pleased to welcome visitors to its manufacture, located north of the city of Marseille (15th) and in the Marseille Soap Museum built in the heart of the factory. This 285 m2 museum space allows you to discover the history of Marseille soap, its traditional manufacturing process, its uses of yesteryear but also its territorial roots and its industrial context. One of the most beautiful private collections of Marseille soaps is on display. Everything you need to know about Marseille soap, or rather almost everything, the recipe of manufacture remaining secretly guarded by the master soap maker of the Savonnerie du Midi!
