A hike to meet an atypical breeder-shepherd who spends the rest of the year in the Paris region and keeps for the first year in Champoléon. Then we will pass the hut where he spends 4 months then a break at the other house still standing to understand what life was like here, 100 years ago.

About the location

MAISON DU BERGER (CENTRE D'INTERPRÉTATION DES CULTURES PASTORALES ALPINES)
Les Borels 05260 Champoléon
  • Hautes-Alpes
  • Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur
Centre for interpretation and research on alpine pastoral cultures, the Maison du Berger is a tool for discovering, understanding, transmitting and valuing the professions of pastoralism, their know-how and their productions. Open to all audiences – from the curious to the professional – it offers exhibitions, educational activities, training, field trips, a shop-bookstore, a resource centre, etc. to promote awareness and recognition of pastoral professions in their interaction with mountain societies and territories, as well as the functions it provides for the benefit of the community, particularly in terms of the environment and the landscape. The Maison du berger accompanies pastoralism professionals in their projects; its team implements training actions, meetings, mediation tools for all pastoralism and mountain actors, but also for the general public.
