Consisting of thirty-five pieces carved according to a technique specific to the artist, the series "Little Bighorn" forms as a whole a dozen combat scenes in reference to the famous confrontation between the Plains Indians and the Federal Army of the United States in 1876.
The work "Little Bighorn" is exhibited under the exceptional Philibert Delorme frame, dating from the nineteenth century made of assembled wood, in the attic of the Rochambeau barracks of Mont-Dauphin.
The series consists of eleven horses and twenty-four characters. All the works were sculpted according to a technique specific to Ousmane Sow: structure in reinforcing steel – plastic straw melted and shaped, then burlap coated with a material of its composition.
The marriage is perfect between this work and the Philibert Delorme-style frame, which highlight each other, particularly in terms of colour and scale.
The harmony is such that many visitors report their feeling that the work seems to have been designed for the place and vice versa!
The exhibition "Little Bighorn, by Ousmane Sow" is accessible all year round in Mont-Dauphin. It promises a sensitive immersion in the heart of one of the most famous battles in American history, thanks to the intensity of the artist’s sculptures.
