Want or need to do a research in archives? An archivist will guide you through the process and familiarize you with the various tools (in the reading room). Thanks to this initiation, you will be autonomous in your future research that you can perform in the reading room at the usual opening hours to the public (excluding Heritage Days).

The Departmental Archives of the Bouches-du-Rhône, the collective memory of the department:
Created during the French Revolution and placed today under the double supervision of the State and the Department, the Departmental Archives were installed in 2006 in the heart of the Euroméditerranée perimeter, in the new building of the Departmental Archives and Library (ABD Gaston Defferre) built by the Marseille architectural firm Vezzoni-Laporte. A huge hull called the pebble houses the written memory of the department and its inhabitants, more than 65 linear kilometres of documents of which the oldest dates back to the year 814\. Charters of the Middle Ages, registers of notaries, cadastral maps, administrative documents, maps, posters, letters, photographs, cd-rom are kept and communicated to the public in the reading room.
