Discovery workshops of original archival documents on the castle of Vauvenargues, located in the heart of the Sainte-Victoire massif, with a passionate archivist (in the reading room).
«I bought the Sainte-Victoire de Cézanne» said Pablo Picasso after having acquired the castle and the Vauvenargues estate where he was buried just fifty years ago. Picasso had also acquired a castle steeped in history since the Middle Ages. From the archbishops of Aix to the doctor of the good King René, the family of the famous moralist Luc de Clapiers dit Vauvenargues to that of the Isoard and Picasso, you will go back in time through written or figurative documents from the public and family archives. Ancient letters and titles, cadastre, notarial archives, printed sources will allow you to discover the fascinating history of the castle of Vauvenargues.
Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 September 2023 at 11 am and 3 pm. Workshop duration: 45 min. For the adult public (children from 12 years old admitted). Free, without prior registration.

The Departmental Archives of the Bouches-du-Rhône, the collective memory of the department:
Created during the French Revolution and placed today under the double supervision of the State and the Department, the Departmental Archives were installed in 2006 in the heart of the Euroméditerranée perimeter, in the new building of the Departmental Archives and Library (ABD Gaston Defferre) built by the Marseille architectural firm Vezzoni-Laporte. A huge hull called the pebble houses the written memory of the department and its inhabitants, more than 65 linear kilometres of documents of which the oldest dates back to the year 814\. Charters of the Middle Ages, registers of notaries, cadastral maps, administrative documents, maps, posters, letters, photographs, cd-rom are kept and communicated to the public in the reading room. The valorisation of the archives is proposed to all through a dynamic program of exhibitions, live shows, meetings, visits-workshops and via a website where is availa
