Built in 1423 during the reign of Charles VII, from a previous Romanesque building, the Notre-Dame Church is a striking witness to the economic, political and intellectual prosperity of the city, at the dawn of modern times. Classified as a "historical monument" in 1862, the building is remarkable by far thanks to the Gothic elegance of its flamboyant arrow of 82.50 meters high which makes it one of the «lighthouses» of the Pays de Fontenay-Vendée.
As part of the 600th anniversary of its construction, several exhibitions are present in the church:
- Photo exhibition «600 years of History in Notre-Dame» (realized and presented by the Association of Friends of Religious Heritage): the exhibition retraces in pictures the eventful history of the Notre-Dame church through the centuries,
- Exhibition of models of medieval art (made by the Wood Section of the Lycée Notre-Dame de Fontenay-le-Comte): these models are intended to allow the public to initiate themselves to the realization of a lintel, a semicircular arch, a pointed arch, and a ogive crossing.
- Exhibition «The old stained glass windows of the choir of Notre-Dame Church» (realized and presented by the Association of Friends of Religious Heritage) : exhibition of the main panels from the two old choir windows dismantled in 1943 and whose remains were only discovered recently!
