The Clemenceau-de Lattre National Museum will be awarded the "Remarkable Tree of France" label for the preservation and maintenance of the "Magnolia grandiflora" adorning the garden of the birthplace of Marshal de Lattre de Tassigny.
This majestic subject has an original shape: the main trunk branches from the base, and the tree is surrounded by a regular curtain of marcottes surmounted by horizontal branches that constitute a shaded circular space. A small gap created and maintained in the curtain of marcottes allows to access the trunk and to admire its astonishing tortuous branching, base of a regular hemispherical headboard of nearly 20 m in diameter.
The circumference of the base of the trunk reaches 4.43 m, which makes it one of the largest subjects of its kind in central-western France. According to historical photographers of the Museum, the age of this tree is estimated at 100 to 120 years.
The unveiling of the plaque will take place at 3pm in the presence of Louis Vallin, vice-president of the association A.R.B.R.E.S.
The day will continue with the screening of the film "The Remarkable Trees, a heritage to protect" at 18h at the cinema "Belle Epine" in the Chestnut (85120), Place de la République ( The museum does not manage reservations, the rate is 5 € and 4 € from 14 years
