Fresco of the Acadians
The Acadians constitute a community descended from French settlers in the 17th century forming the 1st French colony in North America. Expelled from 1755 by the English, they experienced deportation and exile. Some of them were forced to settle in Nantes. In 1993, thanks to the work of Bretagne-Acadie-Louisiane, a fresco was created and renovated in 2019 by Robert Dafford to commemorate this little-known episode.
Guided tours on the little-known history of Acadia: more than 2,000 Acadians lived in Nantes between 1758 and 1785 and more, before a new departure for Louisiana, for many.
