Galerie Chapleau presents the exhibition "Papiers découpés, déchirés, collages" by Henri Caubel.
Born in Paris in 1926, Henri Caubel spent his childhood in Saint-Côme-d'Olt, graduated from the School of Decorative Arts in Paris with a 1st prize, then continued his studies in an architecture studio of the School of Fine Arts. He worked as an architect until the age of 72, notably completing the Zac Front-de-Seine, one of the largest real estate projects in Levallois. When he retired, he became interested in the work of one of his friends: Claude Pélieu, a collagist poet who is part of the Beat Generation group.
From 2001 to 2014, the year of his death, he worked, researched and found a colorful and "architectural" language, using inked paper collages. Part of his graphic and pictorial research, never before exhibited, is the subject of this exhibition: his creative process consists of using Chinese rice paper, inking it, drying it, then cutting it, assembling it and gluing it.
