The estate of Moullins is given by Hugues II, count of Maine to the abbey mancelle de la Couture, by chartre dated between 968 and 991\. The domain will host successively:
* A convent priory from about 990 until the second half of the 13th century, with 10 choir monks and a prior; part of the community goes back around 1180;
* A palatial residence of the abbots of Coûture built around 1300-1320 whose markers are the aula, the camera and the capella, neighboring but disjointed buildings; it was burnt down in 1418 by the invading army of Henry V;
* A new residence whose main components are then the manor house, the dovecote tower and the chapel. Its sponsor, Abbé Michel Bureau (1496-1518), demoted the old aula, reduced to its stone shell, to the rank of a simple tithe barn. The last residence reached us, but also the aula of 1300, large medieval reception room
