Nine re-enactment troops will take possession of the Roman arena at Toulouse-Purpan and set up camp there:

  • Branno Teuta: reconstructions and evocations of the life of the Celtic people of Senons and Parisii (pottery, weaving, leather work, forging, fighting). Presentation of two carnyx
  • A bit of history: gladiators and Roman legionaries will be present in the camp to present their equipment and make demonstrations.
  • Castra Peregrina: research and historical reconstruction association on intelligence agents of the Roman army (how to code ancient messages, spy on an enemy camp, bivouac in hostile areas, map and orient, or transmit a long-distance message by telegraph ancestors..)
  • The gates of history: these formidable horsemen completely clad in bronze scales protect the borders of the Roman Empire. They demonstrate their dexterity during equestrian games, such as target shooting, archery, spear fighting... They shine so bright under the sun that they dazzle their enemies! Three riders and their riders will be present and will ensure equestrian shows.
  • Viatores: late Roman encampment (panoply and armament, minting, carpentry, tablettering, dyeing and pigment).
  • Warriors of the Middle Ages: specialized on the 12th and 13th centuries (costume, education of children, food, equipment of a foot fighter and a knight, fighting).
  • The reins of history: medieval equestrian equipment (saddles, bridles, covers...). Educational demonstrations explaining how to train and train a war horse in the early 13th century. Demonstrations of combat against pedestrians and against and riders.
  • The Dun militas: camp around a southern lord of the early 13th century: the tent and its furniture, the Noble Lady, the surgery, the pilgrim, the knight and the southern pedestrian, the light, the currency, the table and the kitchen.
  • The lions of Kent: English military camp of the 15th century constantly animated. Civilian duels and duels in full armor, presentation of sharp weapons, demonstrations of sword handling, spear fighting, archery and javelin, making arrows.
You will be able to discover, exchange and share the enthusiasm of all these enthusiasts who give life, thanks to the most recent data provided by archaeology, to the Celtic and Roman antiquity as well as the Middle Ages.

About the location

Amphithéâtre romain de Toulouse-Purpan
Avenue des Arènes Romaines, 31200 Toulouse
  • Haute-Garonne
  • Occitanie
The district Purpan-Ancely keeps(preserves) important vestiges of the roman time. A secondary town(conglomeration) or a rural sanctuary raised itself(drew itself up) there, in the confluence of Touch and of the Garonne, two thousand years ago. Two monuments testify it. A swimming pool (natatio) preserved in a building of the city(estate) Ancely. An amphitheatre(lecture hall) the technique of construction of which is particularly original.
