Over the centuries, the Gallo-Roman estate of Veneianum, located on the banks of the Rhone, has evolved. From 1290 to the end of the 16th century, the Bézier family succeeded each other and built the castle. Then it was d'Ancezune and de Grignan, the last of whom, François, married Marguerite de Sévigné, the famous daughter of the Marquise.
The Romanesque chapel of Saint-Jean-Baptiste, dating from the 12th century, is listed as a Historic Monument.
Built in 1813 at the request of Joseph Dumas, miller at Bagnols-sur-Cèze, the mill operated for about a century. It was rehabilitated in 2000 thanks to the will of the municipality and with the help of an association.
With its cobbled streets and varied heritage, Vénéjan offers an interpretive trail entitled «The breath of words». This trail tells you the story and life of the Venezuelans who lived in harmony with their environment.
