Discover this exceptional presentation that will allow you to (re)discover a wide range of works, ranging from the artistic movements that appeared in the 1960s, to the most contemporary proposals. You can also admire French and German paintings from the 80s as well as works of singular artists. The route, proposed on the two floors of the museum, offers a more or less chronological approach. This exhibition highlights the perpetual dialogue between figuration and abstraction, as well as the place of the narrative in the creation of images and representations of the world. It also highlights the diversity of media used in recent decades, such as painting, assembly, installation, video and performance. These works offer new aesthetic and sensitive relationships with the world around us. The selection presented will be completed by three artists from different generations linked to the history of the museum: Tarik Kiswanson, Suzanne Lafont and Walid Raad. Walid Raad, who has already exhibited at Carré d'Art in 2014 and at the Jesuit Chapel in 2021, presents here a set of five works from the collection. Invited to take a look at the collection, he created a new installation that echoes the museum’s history, between fiction and reality. Tarik Kiswanson was also present at Carré d'Art with the exhibition «Mirrorbody», his first solo exhibition in a French institution. Many of his works are part of the collection. The last rooms of the museum highlight some of the areas recently given to the collection, related to the presence of bodies, movement, identity, memory and the different ways of elaborating a story. Suzanne Lafont, who was presented at Carré d'Art during her exhibition «Situations» in 2015, offers a photographic work that evokes references to theatre, performance and cinema. The images that are not available for this presentation will be represented in poster form, accompanied by the title of the works, the names of the artists and an explanation of their absence in the hanging. This exhibition is part of the programme of the Rencontres d'Arles, as part of the Grand Arles Express. Enjoy the flash tour for a random and dynamic discovery of the works by the museum’s mediators. These flash tours are offered every 30 minutes. In addition, every 10 minutes, a specific room or a particular work will be highlighted during a dedicated presentation.
