«From Nîmes to the Nile»: an exhibition from the collection of Carré d'Art
The Old Nimes Museum houses exceptional collections of fabrics that trace the history of the city. The exhibition presents a collection of works from the Carré d'Art collection, highlighting textiles as an artistic medium. Among the pieces on display is Nemausus la voile, a creation of Anna Boghiguian created during her exhibition at Carré d'Art in 2016, which combines a felucca veil with a denim canvas, thus establishing a link between Egypt and Nimes. Latoya Ruby Frazier printed a series of performance photographs from New York on denim canvas, recalling the commercial relations between Europe and the United States. Mounira Al Solh, meanwhile, embroiders intimate portraits of Syrians with whom she was able to exchange, on fabrics evoking the furnishing textiles of houses forever lost. These various works are a fascinating artistic exploration of the textile world and its connection to history and culture.
