An oasis in Petite Camargue! :
As part of the 40th edition of the European Heritage Days, the Camargue pigeon cartel of Cailar will move its small ancient museum of the pigeon traveler to the castle of Teillan in Aimargues (Gard) and ensure a continuous presence with animations on site. In addition to the castle, visitors will discover three remarkable buildings: the noria, the dovecote of the sixteenth century and the chapter house in the main building of the castle. The spectacular dovecote (1,500 nests) with a bishop’s mitre vault was made of dressed stone around 1600 with an interior rotating wooden ladder. The vaulted room on the ground floor served as a prison for the seigneury. The wheel well or noria, connected to the Vidourle by an underground aqueduct, dates from 1609. Its superstructures were modified under the Restoration to form a large basin fed by a stone dumping basin, in place of the old wooden trough. The machinery was constantly maintained until around 1920, as it watered the vegetable garden.
