The museum’s new temporary exhibition, created in partnership with the Institut Pasteur, traces the life and work of Louis Pasteur through his great scientific works, the milestones of his life and the scientific legacy he passed on. The museum’s collections resonate with the kakemonos made by the Institut Pasteur on the occasion of the bicentenary of the birth of Louis Pasteur. The various exhibition centres illustrate Louis Pasteur’s early work, his "pasteurization" processes, his studies on sericulture (silkworm breeding), his discovery of microbes, his research on vaccination and rabies, and finally the development of the Institut Pasteur and the scientific heritage of the scientist. A playful course for children illustrates 5 of these major themes.

About the location

Muséum d'histoire naturelle et de préhistoire de Nîmes
13 boulevard Amiral Courbet, 30000 Nîmes
  • Gard
  • Occitanie
The Nîmes museum occupies the premises of a former Jesuit college. On your way there, you can admire an entrance garden, as well as galleries dedicated to geology and prehistory on the ground floor, and ethnology and zoology on the first floor. The cloister is visible but unfortunately not accessible to visitors. You will have the opportunity to dive into the local history that spans many years, discover the perception of colonies in the 1930s, as well as a selection of mammals, birds, fish and other vertebrates on display in the collection.
