Les deux moulins de Chamboux

Site with two small mills in the hollow of a preserved valley. They have been restored by the Association «La Pierre Levée». Located almost side by side, they are covered with thatch and were rebuilt in granite stones (recovered for the most part) bound with a lime mortar, invisible from the outside. Very interesting hydraulic network, testimony of the work of peasants in the nineteenth century. One mill produces flour (vertical axis mechanism, hopper and grinding wheels) and the other produces electricity, just enough to illuminate the inside of the two mills, thanks to a small turbine with vertical axis also. Comment on the mills of the Plateau de Millevaches and the changes of landscapes made in recent decades because of massive reforestation. The place is invisible from the road and the path that leads to it allows to admire the reach and the stream (one of the arms that form the Vienna a few cables downstream) Besides the interest to see the mills working, the public can also see
Access
At the bottom of the village of Peyrelevade, turn left after the guest house «L'Antre Mil» and take immediately, pressing on the right to the «Site des moulins» already reported. At 4 km, before arriving at the village of Chamboux, park your car on a ground-plein on the left. The path to the mill is well signposted and it is signposted (10mn walk).
