At the foot of the castle of Lanquais stands the imposing mass of the barn called titîmière, with its sloping roof and its three-nave frame supported by nine pillars each made of a huge oak. Guided tours of the barn are organized by the volunteers of the association LSPP (Lanquais Sauvegarde Patrimoine Public).

About the location

Grange de Lanquais
Lieu-dit l'Ormière, 24150 Lanquais
  • Dordogne
  • Nouvelle-Aquitaine
Remarkable rural building for its exceptional dimensions and its frame that marks the transition between the techniques of assembly of the Middle Ages and those of the Renaissance of the fifteenth and seventeenth centuries. It seems that the first barn (smaller than the current one) belonged to the bishops of Bordeaux, who would have leased it to the seigneur, owner of the castle of Lanquais. Perhaps after a fire, it would have been rebuilt by doubling its dimensions, as they are perceptible today.
The barn has been listed as a Historic Monument since 1942.
