The Maison des compagnons du tour de France des Devoirs Unis presents the history of companionship and the «masterpieces» made by aspiring companions. Created in 1889, the Union Compagnonnique du Tour de France is an association that brings together men of different trades around the same ideal: learn, progress and transmit knowledge while asserting itself as a man. Its mission is the accomplishment of man in and through his profession. Being a Companion has always been a symbol of professional qualities and moral correctness. All the Companions of the Union Compagnonnique des Devoirs Unis, in France, Switzerland, Belgium and all over the world, perpetuate this will and transmit it to young people who want to follow the path to become Aspirants and then Companions. In 2010, «Compagnonnage, a network for the transmission of knowledge and identities through the profession» was recognized and registered as an intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO.
