Since 2020, Nicolas de Laâge de Meux, the new owner, has undertaken a vast restoration campaign that aims to restore the castle to the state closest to what it could be in the sixteenth century. The castle is now classified as a Historic Monument since 2022.
The castle of Herm was a magnificent romantic ruin nestled in its green since the nineteenth century, and since an extraordinary metamorphosis is underway. The house has found its frame and cover, its dormers, its floors, and part of its frames and windows. In a few months, the north tower will have found its frame.
Exceptionally for the European Heritage Days, the Château de l'Herm opens its doors for a privileged visit, led by the owner and his passionate team. Register and let yourself be guided in this project. We will tell you the story of this castle but also the incredible epic of its rebirth!

From the 17th century, in a context of contention around its possession, it became the property of the Hautefort. However, during this period and the eighteenth century, it ceased to be inhabited by its owners and now houses farmers and storage spaces. The Hautefort sold it in 1805 and the castle, passing from hand to hand, was dismantled at that time (it is described as ruined in 1830). He gained a certain notoriety when the novelist Eugène Le Roy made it the theatre of his book «Jacquou le Croquant».
In 1927, an inscription to the title of the Historical Monuments prevented the removal of its chimneys. From the 1960s onwards, its various owners (including a couple of archaeologists)
