Discovery of the National Academy of Sciences, Belles-Lettres and Arts of Bordeaux
The free visit allows to admire a beautiful example of Bordeaux mansion of the nineteenth century, with its large staircase, its series of lounges and its library. It also makes it possible to get acquainted with the National Academy of Sciences, Belles-Lettres and Arts of Bordeaux, founded in 1712, with its rich heritage including paintings, including a portrait of Montesquieu classified as historical monuments, busts, engravings, decorations and medals. The fairs include as a set the Academician Fair and two major fairs. The woodwork, chimneys, ice and ceilings are period (mid-19th century). A slideshow will scroll on the screens of the fairs, presenting the history of the 310 years of the Academy, the famous academicians, the organization and activities of the Academy today (members, sessions, publications, awards). In the library, collections of works and memoirs of 19th century academicians will be presented and commented. A score recently acquired from Isaac de Sarrau de Boynet, one of the founders of the Academy and composer, will also be presented to the public, while no score of this musician was known until now. Academicians will be present to answer visitors' questions. They will also be able to take old annual publications of the Academy free of charge and register to receive invitations to public sessions.
