These remains are interpreted as the foundations of a Gallo-Roman civil basilica, probably built in the 1st century. after J.-C. With an area of 200 m 2, they represent barely a third of the initial basilica, the rest still being under the streets of the city center. Belonging to the forum of the city, this public place of meeting hosted many activities of civic life; one made justice there. The basilica with a peripheral ambulatory measured 43 m long and 27 m wide. It was framed by two adjoining rooms, with portions of walls that suggest the presence of tabernae (shops) adjacent to the building. A 'archaeological crypt' is arranged under the residence, but part of the site is however destroyed to make way for a parking lot. Open to the public since 1986, this facility is the only permanent exhibition space in the Borda museum. It highlights the city of Aquae (ancient Dax) through rich collections evoking the public and daily life of the inhabitants of the Tarbelle territory.
