About the location

Les mottes castrales de l'an mil
La tour, 23130 Saint-dizier-la-Tour
  • Creuse
  • Nouvelle-Aquitaine
The history of the mottes castrales of La-Tour-Saint-Austrille was revealed thanks to Thérèse Mangeret after more than 10 years of research and a long journey to find many documents, decipher the archives and validate hypotheses. It is the place of appearance of the first of the counts of the March and therefore the origin of the Creuse. Boson first was sent to the site by the Duke of Aquitaine in the year 957-958, in a particular context that foreshadows the coming conflicts between Aquitaine and its neighbors. The tour details both the local context and the larger picture. It reveals the remains of successive eras of the site’s history.
