Around the station of Bayonne, on the north bank of the Adour, the Saint-Esprit district is connected to the historical center by the bridge of the same name. A neighbourhood of the future, and one of the best neighborhoods in Bayonne, Saint-Esprit maintains a strong identity and village atmosphere from its past as an autonomous commune. The birthplace of Bayonne chocolate shops, the Saint-Esprit district has a long history. It includes the Vauban Citadel and the town’s synagogue. It has for attraction the breathtaking view that it offers on the old Bayonne, on the other side of the Adour. The area also houses two cinemas, the Atalante Contemporary Art Gallery, and several renowned restaurants.
