Bas-Cenon: a crossing of the old quarters along the water, from Captaou to the prairies
From north to south, at the foot of the Cenon hill; a walk is proposed in the lower Cenon.
To understand part of the history of Cenon, the study of the lower part of the hillside sheds light on the agricultural and urban evolution of the commune. The Architecture and Urban Heritage Department in project, in connection with the survey and inventory study of built and landscape heritage, proposes a walking route on the traces of the history of this part of the right bank, today at the heart of heritage issues. This is the opportunity to show the evolution of the neighborhoods that are developing around Bordeaux, port of the Moon, inscribed on the World Heritage List in 2007.
From the tram station, Cenon-gare, we will walk between the north and south of the avenue Jean-Jaurès, between urban changes concentrated around this axis and natural heritage formed by the abundant vegetation of the hillside.
We will discover the old urban fabrics adjoining the district of Bordeaux-Bastide, compact and tight. But also the pavilion sets linking the space between the boulevard Joliot-Curie and the hillside. These subdivisions are marked by their more or less large gardens with ordinary and domestic urban landscapes. We will share our study on this district where the architecture built, continuous and discontinued, of low height, offers us many views of the private gardens that bring breath to the urban landscape of Bas-Cenon.
