It took more than 19 centuries for women to legitimately begin to enter the world of sport. Today, although sport seems to be accessible to women in Western societies, women’s performance is still not recognized or rewarded in the same way as that of their male counterparts. Serious inequalities persist for top athletes, particularly in terms of remuneration. In rugby, for example, which is a highly publicized sport, women all have an amateur status and therefore receive no monthly remuneration.
