Conference: «La grotte des Eyzies, or Richard cave and the discovery of prehistory in the Vézère valley» by Emeline Deneuve
If the arrival of Édouard Lartet in the Vézère valley in the early 1860s is a well-known episode for prehistorians, the role played by the discovery of the Eyzies cave, or Richard cave, in the history of prehistory, is less so. It is however the first cavity visited by the eminent prehistorian in August 1863...
On the occasion of the European Heritage Days, the curator of heritage Emeline Deneuve retraces the discovery of this cavity by highlighting the important role she played in the birth of the discipline that is prehistory.
Emeline Deneuve is a prehistorian and heritage curator at the DRAC Nouvelle-Aquitaine, Bordeaux site, in charge of archaeological operations and prehistoric sites of the Dordogne department.
