Inhabited until 1955 and witness of the medieval past of the town, the castle of Thouars displays a surprising contrast between its north facade and its nineteenth facade designed by Charles Durand. Near the building, a bunker recalls the German occupation of the place. Its acquisition with part of the domain by the commune in 1957 will later allow the installation of a nautical stadium now rehabilitated.
