Lake Escourou is a dam lake located on the border of the departments of Lot-et-Garonne (right bank) and the Dordogne (left bank), established on the Escourou, a tributary of the Dropt. It is the largest water reservoir in Aquitaine with 8.3 million m3 and covers approximately 120 hectares.
In the late 1980s, elected farmers often decided to create retention lakes for irrigation.
An upstream dam, a dike and four years of construction. In 1992, it was flooded. Its filling lasted a year.
Almost thirty years later, the site was classified in the Natura 2000 network and visits were made to discover the fauna and flora. It hosts fishing competitions, windsurfing sometimes, and can serve as a training base for the Canadair on takeoff from Bordeaux. The public basin establishment, Épidropt, even plans to set up a water stop there. Swimming is the only unauthorized activity.
