The building was built in the 19th century on the decision of Napoleon I. Initially a horse riding school under the Haras de Saint-Lô, the place is one of the few buildings spared by the 1944 bombing. Prison, multipurpose hall or cinema it was finally in 1990 that it was dedicated to contemporary music.
Elements of the 19th century are still visible in Normandy. Today, one can still observe the cornices and the external buttresses but also the painted silhouette of the old windows. Inside, you can see the whole of the historic wooden frame with its exposed wagon wheels or the mouldings... From the cinema, there remains only the projection window which today allows to observe the room from the offices. In 1999, work to renovate the Normandy turned it into a building consisting of a 900-seat hall, three dressing rooms, a rehearsal room, offices, a dining area and storage rooms.
