Sweet Stay Awhile concert, English music for voice, lute and harpsichord
The «Sweet Stay Awhile» concert takes you to Elizabethan England with the refined and intimate repertoire of 17th-century lute songs and instrumental pieces. The delicate melodies and poetic lyrics of these lute songs will transport you to this era of romance and melancholy. The soft lute sound, accompanied by the soft voice and depth of the harpsichord, will create an atmosphere of relaxation and contemplation. On the program: works by John Dowland, Philip Rosseter, Thomas Robinson, among others.
Fabricio Melo, lute Born in Brazil, Fabrício Melo began his musical studies at the age of 8. He obtained his BA in classical guitar at the University of Brasilia in 2003, as well as his MA in musicology at the Federal University of Minas Gerais in 2007. Passionate about ancient music and historical instruments, he then specialized in the practice of lute, theorbo and ancient guitars. Settled in France since 2009, he continues his studies at the CRR of Tours in the lute class of Pascale Boquet and at the CRR of Paris in the class of Charles-Edouard Fantin, where he obtains the First Prize with honors unanimously. He then perfected the baroque lute with Claire Antonini. He has participated in several projects and master classes under the direction of artists such as Ariane Maurette, Olivier Schneebeli, Philippe Beaussant, Christina Pluhar. He currently performs in several Renaissance and Baroque music ensembles and teaches lute at the Vanves and Claye-Souilly Conservatories. Jorge Silva, voice and harpsichord At the age of 8, Jorge began studying harpsichord at the Conservatório de Música in Porto, Portugal, with Maria de Lourdes Alves and Isabel Calado in 2013. He also joined the opera studio. He continued to perfect the harpsichord with Marie Van Rhijn in Paris, France, where he also studied with Jean-François Rouchon as countertenor. Completing his MA in 2020 at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London, with a full scholarship with Carole Cerasi and James Johnstone as well as Emma Kirkby and Mhairi Lawson, Jorge regularly performs as a recitalist and continuo player in Paris, London, Portugal and recently Cape Verde. Founder of his ensemble «Les Rencontres» and collaborating with the composer Antonin Mège, in his first Tocata for solo harpsichord in 2020, premiered in London, Jorge teaches harpsichord at the Conservatoire de Franconville et Sablé-on-Sarthe and regularly participates in cultural activities with the ensemble «Les Talens Lyriques».
