ÉGLISE DE SAINT-OUEN/ VERRIÈRES (Orne) - XIIe - XVIe - XIXe In the Middle Ages (XIIth century), the church of Verrieres is limited to a small Romanesque building, modest, of which there remain only elements of the current apse (fragments of a Romanesque fresco ochre, black, blue and red) and the chorus. The wars of a hundred years ago and the «beautiful sixteenth century» occurred, the church of Verrieres adapts to the demographic push: a long nave, six side chapels, spacious, Gothic style. Since then, it is adorned with religious furniture suggested by the Council of Trent, with four very beautiful altarpieces in white limestone (MH), a Pieta (MH), a large altarpiece in painted wood (MH) decorated with a Resurrection (MH) in the manner of Van Loo, a Christ suffering from German-inspired carved wood (MH) and a painted Way of the Cross (19th century).
