Guided tour: Alauna, the ancient ancestor of Valognes
The members of the association Agglomération Antique d'Alauna will present a synthesis of the most recent archaeological research conducted under the direction of Laurent Paez-Rezende and Laurence Jeanne. Founded during the reign of Augustus, Alauna was during the High Empire one of the main Roman settlements of present-day Normandy. The identification of the forum and its main sanctuary confirms that it held the rank of city capital of the Unelles people. The visit will give rise to a presentation of the baths, the heart of town (forum, sanctuaries, residences), the craft districts and will end, at the end of a discovery route of about 1.5km, on the site of the Ancient Theatre, which will be displayed to the public.
