As every year, the Paris City Hall opens its doors on the occasion of the European Heritage Days.
For the 40th edition, visitors will be able to discover the office of the Mayor of Paris, the library of the City Hall, the Council Room, the ceremonial lounges and the Paris Rendez-Vous boutique.
Parisian heritage will be at the heart of this visit. Also, an exhibition and videos will present the major restoration projects currently conducted by the City of Paris on its heritage buildings and the public will be able to meet curators, restorers, historians and archaeologists of the City present to discuss their jobs and missions.
Stonemasons, stained glass or painting restorers will offer demonstrations to better know these know-how that are passed down from generation to generation. A real village of heritage trades will be installed in the courtyard of the Mayor of Paris.
The Conseil d'architecture, d'urbanisme et de l'environnement de Paris (CAUE) will be there to help you discover a new way to explore the city’s heritage through an application.
At their side, visitors will also be able to discover the many skills of the craftsmen who maintain the City Hall on a daily basis: florists, locksmiths, upholsterers, watchmakers, parquet floors, polishers…
An exhibition entitled «History of the City Hall, from the origins to the reconstruction» will retrace the history of this exceptional building.
For the second year, the City of Paris offers an outside the walls of its 10 heritage and specialized libraries, still too little known to the general public.
Paris being the godmother city, the model of the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle will be as every year exposed.
Many new features will also be added to the tour this year to offer visitors to the City Hall unique and original experiences.
Finally, the exhibition «30 years of the Grands Prix de la Création de la Ville de Paris» will highlight the diversity of Parisian talents awarded in recent decades in the fields of design, fashion and crafts. With a historical perspective, this exhibition proposes to (re)discover, through a selection of pieces, the forms, materials or techniques that have characterized the aesthetic and prospective approaches of the laureates.
The visit will benefit from mediators from the Louvre school in the salons to comment on the decorations and paintings. A reception system for visitors with disabilities will also be in place with personalized support and/ or loan of a chair, in connection with the trained volunteers of the association Action Passer.
Registration required - Registration opens on Thursday, September 7.
