Guided tour of the City Hall
Until 1876, the town hall of Saint-Maur was installed in various houses near the church of Saint-Nicolas in the district of Vieux-Saint-Maur. A not very central position that feeds the will of independence of La Varenne. The development of the urbanization of the Marne loop makes it essential to move the town hall to a more central place. The debates are fierce. The construction of the City Hall of Saint-Maur began on August 18, 1876 on land donated by Louis-Désiré Mahieu, former mayor of the town. Too small because of the population increase, the building was enlarged between 1937 and 1941 under the direction of Lucien Graf, architect of the City. From the original town hall, there remains the central part of the facade and the wedding hall, decorated by Paul-Albert Beaudoin, that you will discover during the visit that will end on the top floor to enjoy the beautiful view from the roofs and the new canopy because the Hôtel-de-Ville is a living building, in constant evolution and transformations
