Guided tour of the exhibition: "Imprison, welcome, care for. Evolution of the Nanterre house (1887-1989)"
The object of the exhibition is to retrace the history of the Departmental House of Nanterre, built between 1870 and 1887, to replace the begging depot of Saint-Denis who, in the space of a century has gone from a house of repression to a hospital with unique status. The final chronological limit will be Law 89-18 of 13 January 1989 giving the public establishment, which takes the name CASH, a social and sanitary character. Today, it welcomes homeless people, shelters the elderly and includes a hospital service. The holdings of the Departmental Archives lend themselves particularly to this subject, making it possible to highlight, in particular through notes, plans and photographs, a singular architecture, the evolution of interior fittings (dormitories, refectories, prison building, etc.) and internal organization through the institution’s internal regulations and budgets. This exhibition would also be an opportunity to discuss the conditions of reception and care of patients or residents and finally the history of the development of the hospital.
