The church Notre-Dame du Raincy is the first church in the world entirely made of reinforced concrete. Major work of the architect Auguste Perret, it celebrated its hundred years on June 18, 2023.
Classified as a Historic Monument in 1966, it is recognized worldwide as an emblematic landmark of 20th century architecture, under the name of «the Holy Chapel of reinforced concrete», so named by Le Corbusier. The restoration of the bell tower being completed recently, the building has been renovated for its centenary.
During this visit, discover how a daring and innovative architect and renowned artists - Maurice Denis, Antoine Bourdelle and Marguerite Huré - managed to build a monument in just thirteen months of construction! Your guide will explain how Auguste Perret combined his talents as an architect with the performance of reinforced concrete to design a large-scale religious building despite a particularly low budget. He will also present you the magnificent set of stained glass windows by Marguerite Huré, which adorn the entire walls of the church and flood it with colors. Particular comments will focus on the ten figurative windows designed by Maurice Denis, including the one commemorating the departure of taxis from the Marne towards the Battle of Ourcq.
