Visit to a World War II air raid shelter

Discovered in 2015, this shelter was built in 1939 to ensure the protection of the population in the event of an air alert. After restoration, part of the shelter is proposed for the visit. This shelter is a unique testimony to the living conditions of civilians during the war. Built to protect the 400 children of the only school in Bourg-la-Reine from bombing, the shelter, which follows a so-called "rack and pinion" route, complies with the passive defence recommendations issued by the French government before the war: a corridor broken by right angles to mitigate the effects of the bombs. A support exhibition presenting the history of the construction of this shelter and the local context precedes the free visit. For security reasons, groups of 20 people will be formed.
