About the location

Maison Lucas Carton
9 place de la Madeleine 75008 Paris
  • Île-de-France
The restaurant was officially opened when the building was built by architect Charpentier in 1839\. But it was in 1860 that its new owner, Monsieur Augis, named it “La Taverne de France” which became the place of Napoleon III’s Paris. His successor Scaliet gave the restaurant its decisive role by calling it “Lucas” in 1880, but above all by ordering from Majorelle the carved woodwork that adorned the restaurant, making it one of the masterpieces of Art Nouveau, Attracting art lovers from all over the world. Between the wars, Mr.Carton bought the restaurant and put his name next to that of the establishment. Since 1924, Lucas Carton has faced the Madeleine.
A unique restaurant, historical heritage of France.
All the woodwork was done by Louis Majorelle and took four years of work. They were carved in the maple, sycamore and lemon woods of Ceylon in the spirit of the time.
