About the location

Abbaye de Maubuisson
Avenue Richard-de-Tour 95310 Saint-Ouen-l'Aumône
  • Val-d'Oise
  • Île-de-France
Of this former Cistercian abbey of women (Notre-Dame-La-Royale), founded by Blanche de Castille, remain the barn (building with impressive volume) and part of the square claustral (chapter room, parlor, room of nuns and latrines). The abbey rooms are vaulted with warheads, decorated with stained-glass windows and glazed terracotta green and yellow. The 10-hectare park features archaeological remains and ancient water works. Since 2001, the medieval abbey of Maubuisson is dedicated to the visual and visual arts, connected with the architectural heritage. This redefinition of the abbey as a contemporary art site raises the question of the articulation between architectural heritage and artistic creation.
