About the location

Château de l'Hermitage
Square de la Mairie 91190 Gif-sur-Yvette

In 1831, the Baron de Meneval (1778-1850), secretary of Napoleon I whom he accompanied throughout his career, bought the property of the Hermitage. He built there a square castle of two floors and outbuildings (stables, orangery, greenhouse, garage, henhouse...). This 9-hectare plot then extends to the Yvette to the south and the Mérantaise to the west. Over the years and after several sales, the property was bought by the municipality in 1938 which set up its municipal services there. Today, the castle still hosts wedding celebrations. The park is open to the public.
