Since 1876, Victor Schœlcher has periodically rented a house in Houilles to his friend Émile Faucon, which he uses during the warmer months. As he got older he spent more and more time there and settled permanently in 1889, until his death in 1893. On the occasion of a visit to the gardens of the Schoelcher House, lecturer Marianne Autain will introduce the history, struggles and commitment of Victor Schoelcher, best known for having contributed to the drafting of the decree of abolition of slavery in 1848.

This bourgeois house is built in a subdivision created around 1865 in the former park of the lord of Houilles. Since 1876, Victor Schœlcher has periodically rented it to his friend Émile Faucon. As his age came, he spent more and more time and settled there permanently in 1889, until his death in 1893\. In 2011, the city acquired the house and began a reflection on its renovation. In 2023, the house was labeled Heritage of Regional Interest.
