In the heart of downtown Saint-Denis, topped with red peas of a mushroom and containing an unbuilt land, the Swan Islet is an exceptional place, vestige of our past. Nature grows there in complete freedom, between the old stones and the bed of an old stream. This site has hosted a dense and diverse life over the centuries, which is just waiting to be told…. In a context of climate change and ecological emergency, Franciade invites you to meet us at this place, a crossroads between present and past to visit it and take a look back at the activities carried out in July around heritage and ecology.

About the location

La Fabrique de la ville
4 rue du Cygne 93200 Saint-Denis
  • Seine-Saint-Denis
  • Île-de-France
The Fabrique de la ville was inaugurated in the heart of Saint-Denis in 2011, a stone’s throw from the basilica and adjacent to the tourist office. Raising her mushroom-like hat and accompanied by a site of archaeological excavations, she created surprise. A real urban island, in resonance with that of the basilica. Places full of history that let glimpse to the Dionysian population the origins of this land that they tread every day. A unique experience to experience, immersing yourself in the history of this famous city but which still hides many secrets. Since 2009, the public has been able to discover the archaeological site at the foot of the Fabrique and the numerous remains discovered, such as lavandière vats or the remains of a craft around animal skins. After its extension in 2015, the excavation expanded and was completed in the summer of 2017\. If you have ever been to Swan Island, forget the landscape you knew. Feel free to rediscover it, you might be surprised…
