The Chapel was built in the area called the Monastery, a vast park where, in the 12th century, at the instigation of Saint-Louis, Simon de Montfort and Saint Yves de Chartres founded the Abbey of Notre-Dame-de-clairefontaine, entrusted to the regular canons of Saint Augustin.
During the revolution, the abbey was abandoned and gradually fell into ruins.
