Due to the lack of a higher education for girls, the construction of a high school was envisaged in 1936 by the Ministry of National Education. In 1931, architect Brunet began construction work. Inaugurated in June 1937 by Jean Zay, Minister of National Education, the school is named after Marie Curie, who lived in Sceaux. At its opening, after the Second World War, the high school welcomed about 500 students. Today, the city includes college, high school and preparatory classes, with 1,800 students. The city with functionalist architecture of the 1930s is included in the inventory of historical monuments.
