Demonstration - The Foucault Pendulum
The question of the rotation of the Earth was still not scientifically proven at the dawn of the second half of the 19th century. It will take all the ingenuity of the self-taught physicist Léon Foucault to design an instrument that, even if it has not finished dividing the scientific community, would provide the first concrete answer to a question dating back to the highest antiquity.
The event was considerable; it was decided to make public demonstrations in a most prestigious setting. Thus, in 1851, the Parisian crowd could flock to the Pantheon to see the famous Foucault pendulum oscillate.
It is this experience that we propose to relive, under the vault, no less prestigious, of the church Saint-Martin-des-Champs.
