Located in the city centre, against the castle, the church of Sainte-Geneviève is the oldest monument of Asnières-sur-Seine. Too small and dilapidated, with its bell tower above the choir, the reconstruction of the church was granted in 1702\. The work was undertaken under the aegis of Abbé Lemoine, Doctor of the Sorbonne and Lord by usufruct and partly by Asnières, and of Father Jubé. On September 6, 1711 the new church was consecrated by the bishop of Chalon. The facade and the square bell tower were restored in 1867 by the architect Lequeux, then again in 1872, after the destruction caused by the fighting of 1871\. In 1929, the church was enlarged according to plans by architects Bourdeau and Paternoster, the extension being inaugurated on March 16, 1930 by Cardinal Verdier, future promoter of the cardinal’s projects.
