In 2023, the Palace of Versailles celebrates its 400th anniversary. For four centuries, Versailles has been a living heritage, one of the places where the history of France is written through the ages. It is the exceptional witness of the French cultural heritage.
On the occasion of the European Heritage Days, and from Friday 15 September during an exceptional night visit, the Castle will open the North Wing free of charge. He will unveil a preview of the newly renovated gallery of the Château’s history. Composed of eleven rooms retracing the history of the estate, it is an ideal introduction to the visit.
For this exceptional weekend, you can also discover some of the historic galleries such as the Louis XIV rooms, or the Royal Chapel, in the company of student mediators. Do not miss, on Sunday, September 17, the rooms of the Crusades and the Royal Opera, exceptionally integrated into the tour circuit!
Throughout this weekend, the Palace of Versailles will also celebrate sport by opening the Jeu de Paume Room from 2pm to 6:30pm (last access 5:30pm). Place of the famous oath that marked the French Revolution in 1789, it is above all a room in which one played with the palm, considered as the ancestor of the current tennis, and whose practice was part of the education of the princes in the seventeenth century.
Access:
The entrance is by the Grille d'Honneur and then by the door H cour de la Chapelle (accessible to visitors by wheelchair)
Access to the Jeu de Paume room: 1 Rue du Jeu de Paume (accessible to visitors by wheelchair)

Listed as a World Heritage Site for 30 years, the Palace of Versailles is one of the most beautiful achievements of French art in the 17th century. The former hunting lodge of Louis XIII was transformed and enlarged by his son Louis XIV who installed the Court and the government of France there in 1682\. Until the French Revolution, kings succeeded each other, embellishing the castle in turn. If the castle loses its vocation as the official seat of power in 1789, it knows in the nineteenth century a new destiny: to become the Museum of the History of France, wanted by Louis-Philippe, ascended the throne in 1830\. Many rooms of the castle then welcome the new collections tracing the great events of the History of France, enriched until the beginning of the twentieth century.
