At the origin of the international reputation of this prestigious wine, the Champagne Houses have been united within the Union des Maisons de Champagne since 1882\.
Currently grouping 77 Grandes Marques, the UMC co-manages the «champagne» appellation with the Syndicat Général des Vignerons, within the Comité Interprofessionnel du Vin de Champagne.
Since 1919, the Union des Maisons de Champagne has been located on Marie Stuart Street in a mansion dating from the mid-19th century. The Council Room has a panoramic decoration printed «by the board» by the Zuber manufacture: the Eldorado model, created in 1848.
