"Fabulous animals" offers to be interested in animal representation in the arts without constraint of time or space. The exhibition invites us to reconsider the special place these figures occupy in the history of man and his imagination, and to explore new avenues of reflection.
"Royal pleasures in Touraine in the fifteenth century" is part of a cycle of events celebrating the 600 years of the birth of Louis XI. It addresses the lifestyle and entertainment favoured by the King’s Court when it was still traveling. Hunting, tournaments, gastronomy, music, dances and games will have no secrets for you.
Experience a unique moment between art and history.

About the location

Le Carroi - Musée d'arts et d'histoire
44 rue Haute-Saint-Maurice 37500 Chinon
  • Indre-et-Loire
  • Centre-Val de Loire
It is a museum located in the heart of the historic city. It is in the house of the Estates General, vast building of the fourteenth, fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. This museum was created in 1905 by the Society of Friends of Old Chinon. It offers the visitor collections of works of art and objects illustrating the history of the city and its country from prehistory to the nineteenth century. You can admire several works and series of remarkable objects. The archaeological collections include a rare ceremonial axe from the Bronze Age, and a set of Romanesque sculptures from the collegiate church of Saint-Mexme. Sacred art is abundantly represented with, among other things, the famous screed of Saint-Mexme (Islamic silk of the twelfth century) and a varied statuary of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.
